Wow! It’s hard to believe that the Rebelle is really only one week away! We are so excited to finally be doing all the things we’ve been practicing for so long!
Soon, we will give up our phones, access to the outside world, and beds, and embark on one of the most challenging events of our lives.
So how do you follow along with our adventure from here on? Well, let me give you the breakdown!
Wednesday (10/7) of next week, Kate and I will drive Bandit (our third teammate, Kate’s VW Touareg) up to the Tahoe Area. Don’t worry, we’ll post all about the beautiful drive!
Thursday (10/8), we’ll complete Tech Inspection, confirming that we have all the necessary equipment and knowledge to successfully get ourselves to the Rebelle Rally Finish Line. Then we head to the first base camp, location unknown! Phone check in is promptly upon arrival at Base Camp 1 this year, so they’ll be wrapped up and burried for the rest of the event. We’ll also be sleeping in our tent starting Thursday night.
Friday (10/9), we will complete a ‘mock day’, traveling to a number of checkpoints and getting familiar with the scoring, event breakdown, and general feeling of being on course- except unscored for the day. Saturday morning is the big start. That is the official start line, and when the scoring starts.
Saturday (10/10) to the next Friday (10/16) will be the real deal- navigating to green, blue, and black checkpoints to the best of our abilites, battling tiredness, mental fatigue, weather, and staying in good spirits and communicating well through all of it.
Friday (10/16) we complete the dunes in Glamis, ending the day at our last basecamp finish line!
Now, I can tell you what the schedule is through the 1700 mile trip. I can even tell you what they say to expect and how it feels to push yourself to the limits for 8 days straight of driving. But I am fully aware I don’t really know what to expect.
With this being Kate and my inugural year, we can’t wait to see just what we’re made of! Honestly, our big goal is to keep our cool, stay rational even in the face of “Um, I think we might be lost” and finish knowing we really did our very best, from start to finish.
Kate and I are so stoked to be partnering through this Rebelle with King‘s Ransom Foundation to help fight sex trafficking. Every dollar contributed to Kate and my rally is being matched to our King’s Ransom donation page (https://kingsransomfoundation.salsalabs.org/rescue1000/p/sydneykate219/index.html) to help put an end to sex trafficking. And one of the coolest things about the foundation is that 100% of the money donated truly goes to the cause! All the operating fees are covered by a donor, so our money truly changes lives!
